Frequently Asked Topics & Issues

If you find any discrepancies on your bill or have any questions, please feel free to contact us immediately at 231-853-6900.

  1. To avoid late fees, please allow extra time when paying by MAIL or BILL PAY through your bank. Please write LEGIBLY and include the parcel number(s) and telephone number.
  2. Postmarks are NOT accepted. A DROP BOX is located in the West office door and checked regularly.
  3. Look at the top section of your bill under “Tax Detail” to verify you have a Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) if you qualify. If you think you qualify for a PRE and don’t have it, please contact our Assessor, Joel Slezak 231-724-6681. The exemption reduces the school operating tax on your tax bill.
  4. If mailing in your payment- for a receipt- enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope and your entire tax bill (both portions) with your payment. We will mail you back the top portion as your receipt.
  5. PREFERRED method of payment is by CHECK or money order. We do accept credit cards for payment; there is an additional third party 3% convenience fee for this service. We do accept cash, EXACT amounts only please. Also, you can pay by credit card or e-check online under the “Online Payments” button on our home page. You will be taken to the link to access BS&A Services/Online Payments/Current Tax Payments, either choose to set up an account as property owner or sign on as guest. To set up Auto Pay you need to have an account established. Once you have found your parcel through BS&A there will be an option to process your tax payment with a credit card or e-check/ACH payment. (A credit card cannot be run as a debit card as it is not an option). Be sure to have a transaction receipt emailed to you as proof of payment. Additional fees apply that are determined by BS&A and are subject to change. See your receipt for exact amounts charged. Credit card and e-check payments are accepted July 1 through February 14 yearly.
  6. There are several drain assessments on the tax bills, please call the Water Resources (Drain) Commissioner with any questions as we have no control over what they are able to assess.
  7. The Treasurer’s Office is not responsible for payment on wrong property.
